Hewes, Mustered nominated for Lindy Callahan Scholarship
St. Patrick Catholic High School is proud to announce we have nominated John “Jack” Hewes and Linda Mustered for the Lindy Callahan Scholarship. Jack is the son of Michael and Kay Hewes of Gulfport. He has led the cross country team to back to back state championships. He also was the individual champion during both of those seasons. He has to his credit six individual state titles. He also holds numerous school records in both cross country and track and field. Jack is also the point guard for the St. Patrick basketball team. He helped lead the team to the quarter finals this year. In the quarter final game, Jack picked up the scoring slack and made six three point baskets to keep us in the contest until the final horn. On the academic side, he has a 4.1 GPA and a 34 on the ACT. He is also a National Merit Commended Student and is the president the National Honor Society. Linda Mustered is the daughter of Richard and Sharon Mustered of Biloxi. During her time at St. Patrick, Linda has participated in soccer, softball, volleyball, track and field, cross country and cheerleading. She is the captain of our two time state championship soccer team. As an 11th grader Linda was the MVP of the state championship game. She plans to continue her soccer career at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. Linda has thrived athletically while also maintaining a 3.8 GPA.
The Scholar-Athlete awards were launched in 1996 to honor Mr. Lindy Callahan, a long-time athletic director and coach at Gulfport High School and an eight-time Hall of Fame inductee. It awards 16 seniors from across the state a $1,500 scholarship. The honorees — one boy and one girl from each of the MHSAA’s eight geographical districts — are chosen for their academic accomplishments as well as their participation in high school athletics and extracurricular activities. The recipients will be chosen by a committee made up of MHSAA partners and school administrators.
